Bole floods: No casualty recorded yet, says DCE

Several commuters were over the weekend stranded along the Wa-Bole-Bamboi highway after portions of the road was washed away by the flood

No casualty has yet been recorded following heavy floods in Bole in the Savannah Region over the weekend, the district chief executive (DCE) for the area, Veronica Alele Heming, has said.

Many commuters were stranded over the weekend along the Wa-Bole-Bamboi highway after parts of the road were washed away by the floodwaters.

Speaking to Kwaku Nhyira-Addo on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Monday (18 September), Veronica Heming said some infrastructure, including a number of mosques, has been destroyed by the floods.

“A number of mosques have been destroyed in the flood,” Heming said. “Quite a number of other infrastructure, including private houses, have also been destroyed.

“The affected people may have to come forward for NADMO to assess the situation before we can provide any assistance to [them],” she said.

Meanwhile, motorists travelling to Wa have been advised to use the Sawla-Fufulso road to connect to the Techiman-Kintampo road and avoid being stranded in Bole.

A statement issued by the Ghana Highway Authority on Sunday (17 September) said: “The Ministry of Roads and Highways, acting through the Ghana Highway Authority, regrets to inform the general public that a significant washout has occurred at Doli in the Bole District, 25 kilometres away from Sawla on the N12.

“Our preliminary investigations suggest that the washout was caused by a broken dam by the side of the road.

“Motorists from Wa and its surrounding areas travelling to the south are advised to turn off at Sawla and use the Sawla-Fufulso road to connect the N10 (Techiman-Kintampo road), Motorists going to Wa from the south, should use the Techiman-Kintampo road and turn off at Fufulso Junction and use the Fufulso-Sawla road to Sawla and subsequently to Wa and beyond,” it said.

Motorists from Wenchi to Wa are to use the new Longoro-Kintampo Road on the N10.

“We assure you that our engineers and technical team are working diligently to address the situation as quickly as practicable,” the statement added.
