Bono NDC poised for Saturday polls

A total of 13,693 delegates are expected to cast their votes at 15 centres across 12 constituencies in the Bono Region

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Bono Region says it is poised to conduct free and fair presidential and parliamentary primaries on Saturday 13 May.

About 2,295 delegates in the Sunyani East Constituency are in anticipation of one of the most competitive contests between two aspirants.

Political parties are warming up to the 2024 general elections as they elect their presidential and parliamentary candidates in their primaries. Ghana will be painted with the colours of the NDC in the much-anticipated primary elections on Saturday amid calls for an injunction.

A total of 13,693 delegates are expected to cast their votes at 15 centres across 12 constituencies in the Bono Region. Twenty-three aspirants are contesting the 12 parliamentary seats. Three candidates are contesting unopposed in Wenchi, Jaman North and South Constituencies.

A court injunction has been placed on the process in the Sunyani West Constituency following the disqualification of Evelyn Akantoa, one of two disqualified aspirants, who sought redress in court.

In the Sunyani East Constituency, one of the most competitive primaries is unfolding as businessman, Seid Mubarak, who contested in 2016, rubs it off with first-time aspirant, Kwabena Yeboah-Asuamah Jnr, a lawyer popularly called Lawyer KAY.

In an interview with Asaase News, both candidates were hopeful of winning the election. Yeboah-Asumah stated that he has a firm conviction that he will be elected by the delegates on Saturday.

He said, “I’m positive, sure and very certain that at the of the day [election day] after 5pm, I will be declared the winner. I’m much positive on that because the victory sign is everywhere. When you go to the delegates… you realise the victory is geared towards Lawyer KAY.”

Mubarak, in his rebuttal, called on delegates to vote for him to bring development to the Sunyani Municipality.

He said, “…I pray all the delegates to vote for me. They should vote for the future of their children and the development of Sunyani East.”

The director of elections for the Sunyani East Constituency, Innocent Masiku, says they are poised to conduct a hitch-free election.
