Cape Coast establishes sister city relations with two cities in US

Cape Coast has also been able to establish a sister-city relationship with Bonn in Germany and other cities

Ernest Arthur, the MCE for Cape Coast in the Central Region says plans are far advanced to finalise a Cape Coast sister relations with two cities – Rochester and New Orleans –both cities in the US in the coming weeks.

This is expected to bring to four such relations with some cities across the globe.

Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Tuesday (30 November) with Dr Kwaku Agyeman Budu, Arthur said such partnership will boost socio-economic activities of Cape Coast and the Central Region.

“You know in New Orleans they have this huge festival they celebrate – the Mardi Gras and they do so with coconut but for COVID in 2019 we were supposed to have been the suppliers of coconut for that festival. It was obviously not coming for Cape Coast alone but by extension, Ghana would have gotten that benefit,” he said.

“Rochester is the other way round, we (myself, the Omanhene and a few members of the assembly) have been able to go there. Do the initial signing at their place. We are also expecting them to come to Ghana for us to seal it up and I think along the way there was a change in administration and the mayor couldn’t win the election again and we had to start all over again.’’

He added ‘’But it still stands that we made that initial move, the initial signing and we are expecting that next month they will return the trip for us to seal it. With that initial signing, it is assumed that we have started building that relationship.”
