Chieftaincy dispute: Ministry of Interior imposes curfew on Sampa

The move by the Ministry of Interior comes after chieftaincy dispute in the area resulted in four deaths and several others sustaining injuries

The Ministry of Interior has imposed a curfew on Sampa in the Jaman North District of the Bono Region from 4pm to 7am, effective Thursday (18 April 2024) until further notice.

The curfew was imposed due to chieftaincy disputes in the area.

In a statement, the Interior Ministry urged the chiefs and residents of the area to remain calm and peaceful despite the challenges they are currently facing.

The statement added that carrying arms, ammunition, or offensive weapons is forbidden for anyone in or from Sampa, and anyone found with these items will be arrested and prosecuted.

The curfew is a result of a long-standing chieftaincy dispute in Sampa, in the Jaman North District of the Bono Region.

The dispute escalated into violence between the 30 November, 2023 and 29 March, 2024. The violence resulted in the death of four people and several people also sustained gunshot injuries, including a 12-year-old boy.
