Nkwanta South: Two injured over bridge collapse

Despite several reports seeking government intervention to repair the bridge, no action has been taken

Two individuals sustained injuries after a bridge collapsed on them last Sunday (3 September) in Nkwanta South in the Oti Region and are currently being treated at the St Joseph Catholic Hospital.

In an interview with the media, Rebecca Ann Vorvor, a nursing officer at the hospital, explained that the victims were brought in unconscious after hitting their heads on iron rods.

She said they are responding to treatment.

One of the victims, 21-year-old Paul Obimpeh, said he was traveling with his father from Tuobodom to Nkwanta when they got involved in the accident.

The steel bridge, which serves as a vital connection between communities, became perilous after heavy rainfall washed away parts of it.

As a result, commuters, particularly women, are compelled to pay for assistance to transport their goods to the market center.

The residents are appealing to the government and other agencies to help fix the bridge.
