Death of M N D Jawula is a great loss to Ghana, says NPP

Alhaji Mohammed Nuru Deen Jawula, a former chairman of the GFA and aspirant for NPP running mate, died over the weekend in the US after a short illness

The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has described the death of the late chairman of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Alhaji Mohammed Nuru Deen Jawula as a big blow to the party and the country at large.

Jawula died over the weekend in the United States after a short illness.

A statement issued by the NPP on Monday (23 January), expressed the party’s condolences to the family and people of the Kpembe Traditional Area for the loss.

“The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has received with sadness, news of the passing of Alhaji Mohammed Nuru Deen Jawula, which occurred on Saturday 21 January 2023,” the statement said.

“The late Alhaji Jawula was a long-standing member of the NPP, and was shortlisted for the position of running mate ahead of the 2008 general election, at which time, he expressed his readiness to relinquish his traditional authority in order to serve the NPP and the Republic.

“The passing of Alhaji Jawula is a great loss to this country and the NPP in particular. The Party, hereby, extends its heartfelt condolences to his immediate family and the good people of the Kpembe Traditional Area, the football community and to the rest of the nation,” the statement said.

NPP MOURNS LEPOWURA ALHAJI MOHAMMED NURUDEEN-DEEN JAWULA

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has received with sadness, news of the passing of Alhaji Mohammed Nuru Deen Jawula, which occurred on Saturday, January 21, 2023.

The Late Alhaji Jawula was a long-standing member of the NPP, and was shortlisted for the position of Running Mate ahead of the 2008 General Elections, at which time, he expressed his readiness to relinquish his traditional authority in order to serve the NPP and the Republic.

Alhaji Jawula, as he was affectionately called, also served as the chairman of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) from 1997 to 2001 and was the chairman of the Ghana League Organising Committee until his death. He founded Guan United, a Division One club in Ghana, and held many positions at Real Tamale United.

The late traditional ruler of the Kpembe Traditional Area in the Savannah Region was also a distinguished Statesman having served in the Civil and Public Service for over 30 years.

He rose through the ranks and led various directorates at the Ministries of Health and Finance, as well as Harbours and Railways.

The passing of Alhaji Jawula is a great loss to this country and the NPP in particular. The Party, hereby, extends its heartfelt condolences to his immediate family and the good people of the Kpembe Traditional Area, the football community and to the rest of the nation.
