  • “You remember in 2008 you said in the strong room that ‘I am Rojo Mettle-Nunoo and if Kwabena Agyapong did not take his time’ you are going to go at him one on one? I am putting it to you that character of yours is just what you have displayed to the court."

Lawyer for the first respondent in the ongoing election petition, Justin Amenuvor, on Monday told one of John Mahama’s witnesses, Rojo Mettle-Nunoo, that he has a temperament of ungovernable character.

“You remember in 2008 you said in the strong room that ‘I am Rojo Mettle-Nunoo and if Kwabena Agyapong did not take his time’ you are going to go at him one on one? I am putting it to you that character of yours is just what you have displayed to the court.

“You have a temperament known as ungovernable character, my Lords that will be all,” Amenuvor concluded with his cross-examination of the petitioner’s third and final witness in the Election 2020 petition hearing at the Supreme Court.

His closing remark follows heated exchanges with the witness in the box at the apex court, describing the National Democratic Congress (NDC) stalwart as an “untruthful witness.”

Mettle-Nunoo did not agree to that assertion insisting the EC chair, Jean Mensa, was rather not truthful to Ghanaians during the last general elections.

Irrelevant commentaries

For his part, Akoto Ampaw, counsel for Akufo-Addo, told the witness he was running unnecessary commentaries.

“Let me advise you that you are before the Supreme Court and when a question is put to you, you answer the question, not to set up your own questions and run around with it. So please listen to my questions and answer it, you are not permitted to run irrelevant commentaries,” Ampaw stressed.

Mettle-Nunoo had claimed in his witness statement that on 9 December the EC chair asked him and his colleague, Dr. Michael Kpessa-Whyte, to go and consult Mahama over some issues, and she had offered to give them police escort to assist them get back in time for the declaration of the result.

He said the EC boss acted in bad faith for announcing the results in their absence.
