ECG goes after defaulting customers again

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced plans to embark on a three-month nationwide revenue mobilisation exercise dubbed “Operation Zero”.

The exercise is scheduled to kick off Tuesday (11 July) to 11 September. ECG staff will also use the operation to  capture data of customers into its database.

A statement issued by ECG on Tuesday (4 July), warned that any person who attempts to interfere with the exercise will be arrested and prosecuted.

“The operation will be assisted by security agencies who will apprehend and prosecute customers who attempt to interfere with the exercise,” the statement said.

“During this special exercise, ECG will grant a moratorium to all who are consuming electricity without paying for it to allow them to visit their respective ECG offices for immediate regularisation of their supply. ECG pleads with customers who have not yet received their bills to pay on account to be credited accordingly,” the statement added.

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in May recovered GHC3.1 billion out of the GHC5.7 billion debt owed by customers across the country after a month-long national revenue mobilisation exercise.
