Ejisu by-election: Six candidates draw ballot positions, NPP’s Kwabena Boateng picks #2

This comes after nominations were closed on Thursday (18 April) with some candidates racing against time to submit their forms at the EC office in the Ashanti Region

The Electoral Commission (EC) has cleared six aspirants to contest the Ejisu by-election slated for Tuesday (30 April), Asaase News has learned.

This comes after nominations were closed on Thursday (18 April) with some candidates racing against time to submit their forms at the EC office in the Ashanti Region.

Lawyer Kwabena Boateng, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate picked the number two spot while former MP Ing. Kwabena Owusu Aduomi who will contest as an independent candidate will be number four in the slot. Beatrice Boakye with the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) is third.

The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has Esther Osei picking the number one slot. Two other independent candidates Gabriel Agyemang Joseph and Joaeph Attakora are numbers five and 6 respectively.

Earlier confusion

Meanwhile, confusion broke out after some executives of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) blocked its parliamentary candidate Esther Osei from filing her nomination application.

The party’s Regional Chairman Emmanuel Gallo is said to have directed the EC not to receive the documents, leaving Maadam Osei’s campaign team stranded.

The development stems from ongoing legal tussle within the CPP, following a mass resignation of top officials of the party. A Deputy National Organiser Eric Osei Boateng rebuked the Regional Chairman for his actions.

“Of late there has been some internal wrangling in our party which has since been resolved by the High Court… So, at the last committee meeting the Council resolved to contest the by-election only to be told by the EC officers that our candidate can’t file. But after reaching out to the EC regional office and headquarters the nomination forms have been received”, Osei Boateng explained.
