Ephson: NPP campaign team must guard against “verbal diarrhoea”

Commenting on the constitution of the team on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Tuesday (20 February), Ephson said the NPP has made a good choice in selecting its members

The pollster Ben Ephson has advised the newly constituted campaign team for Vice-President Bawumia to present a disciplined and united front by guarding against what he describes as “verbal diarrhoea”.

The governing New Patriotic Party on Monday (19 February) approved a proposed structure for the NPP’s 2024 national campaign.

A statement from the party said a national campaign co-ordinating committee (NCCC), which will oversee the work of all other campaign committees, shall be chaired by Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s 2024 presidential candidate.

The notable names on the party’s campaign advisory committee include the former president John Agyekum Kufuor, President Akufo-Addo, Freddie Blay, Elizabeth Ohene, Joyce Aryee and Akosua Frema Osei Opare. Also on the advisory committee are all members of the NPP National Council of Elders.

Other names on the various campaign committees are Dan Botwe (campaign chairman), Frederick Opare Ansah (campaign manager), Kwabena Agyepong (a senior campaign aide) and Hawa Koomson, the Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture.

Care with the media

Commenting on the constitution of the team on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Tuesday (20 February), Ephson said the NPP has made good choices.

“I think they have assembled a good team of experienced campaigners with a blend of new ones. It depends on how the synergy will work. There shouldn’t be any attempt to try and score a political point and there shouldn’t be any verbal diarrhoea within the team,” he said.

“They must pick one or two people to speak to the media. The fact that you belong to the campaign team does not give you the licence to speak to the media.

“There have been instances where campaign teams have suffered from malfunctioning by them trying to get radio stations to talk to them. They must assign people to speak,” he said.
