Ghana hosts 2024 IHF Trophy Men Zone 3 Africa

The team looks to book their spot at the Continental Phase of the Men's IHF Trophy Africa

Ghana’s Men’s U18 and U20 national handball teams kicked off their International Handball Federation (IHF) Trophy Men Zone 3 Africa campaign on Monday (20 February) at the Borteyman Sports Complex in Accra, Ghana.

The competition, which is set to run until 24 February, will see Ghana teams led by coaches Hilary Mills, Ossom Dede Philippine, and Emmanuel Sampah take on Benin, Nigeria, and Togo in the U18 competition, while Benin, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Nigeria, and Togo will be the host’s opponents in the U20 competition. The event serves as the qualifier for the Continental Phase of the Men’s IHF Trophy Africa.

In the U18 category, Ghana will clash with Benin, Nigeria, and Togo in a thrilling round-robin tournament spanning from 20-22 February. The top two teams emerging from this round will battle it out in the final showdown on 24 February, while the remaining teams will contend for the third-place spot a day prior.

Meanwhile, the U20 event boasts a unique format, with six teams divided into two groups. Following the preliminary stage, the top two contenders from each group will progress to the semi-finals, slated for 23 February. Simultaneously, the third-ranked teams in their respective groups will vie for the fifth position overall. The pinnacle of the tournament, including the championship match and the bronze medal showdown, is set for 24 February.
