Five things you (probably) didn’t know about Hassan Ayariga

The founder of the All People's Congress (APC) was born on 4 September 1972 in the Upper East Region

Hassan Ayariga is a prominent Ghanaian politician who is known for his strong opinions and controversial statements.

He is the founder and leader of the All People’s Congress (APC).

Ayariga was born on 4 September 1972, in the Upper East Region.

Here are five interesting facts you probably didn’t know about him;

Nicknamed ‘The Computer’ in secondary school

Ayariga in an interview with Accra-based Hitz FM revealed that he was nicknamed ‘The Computer’ in Ghana Secondary School because of his wits.

He noted that he was always either the first or second position in school.

Graduate of the University of Ghana

He studied at the University of Ghana, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics and geography.

He later obtained a Master of Science degree in Defence and International Politics from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration.

A political descendant

His father Frank Abdulai Ayariga, was a Member of Parliament for Bawku during the third republic administration of Hilla Limann and his mother Anatu Ayariga, a businesswoman, whose passion for child education in the then impoverished northern sector of Ghana, made her stand her ground to ensure all her children and those in the community were educated.

Hassan grew up partly in Accra and Bawku before settling in Nigeria when his parents went on exile after the overthrow of the Limann administration. All through his childhood his parents taught him the values of service and responsibility and the blessings of his faith, Hassan Ayariga carries with him to this day.

Due to the moving around by his father, Hassan went to schools in Accra, Bawku and Tamale where he had his secondary education at Ghana Secondary School before moving to Nigeria where he attended Barewa College in Zaria, where he studied ACCA and then to the London School of Accountancy.

An outspoken man

Ayariga is known for his outspoken nature and has often made headlines for his controversial statements. He has been a vocal critic of the ruling government and has called for reforms in various sectors, including education, healthcare and agriculture.

He has also been praised for his efforts to promote youth participation in politics and for his advocacy for gender equality.

In recent years, Ayariga has continued to be active in Ghanaian politics, advocating for transparency and accountability in government and pushing for reforms to improve the lives of ordinary citizens.

Permed his hair for a TV interview

Ayariga in 2022 made his new appearance (hairstyle) which sparked various reactions on social media.

Although he was busily making key submissions, viewers couldn’t help but focus on his black permed shining hair.

Ayariga was spotted with thick-looking black dyed hair which appears to have been laid with lots of gel.

He paired the look with an orange-printed kaftan.

Pictures of his new appearance went viral while generating hilarious comments from netizens.

Earlier in 2021, a couple of throwback photos of Hassan Ayariga made rounds on social media where he was seen rocking blonde braids on his faded haircut, paired with an oversized shirt.

These unfolding events perhaps, go to prove that Hassan Ayariga indeed enjoyed life in his early days.

Overall, Ayariga is a polarising figure in Ghanaian politics, but his dedication to fighting for the rights of the people and his commitment to bringing about positive change in the country cannot be denied.
