Officials of Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) say the former employee stole pipes worth GHC299, 000

Abraham Asare, a 52-year-old former Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) employee at the Amanorkrom Office has been arrested in Larteh in the Akuapem North Municipality of the Eastern Region for stealing 23 eight-inch ductile iron pipes.

The Eastern regional spokesperson of the GWCL, Kwadwo Daase, who revealed this in an interview with Asaase News in Koforidua, said that the pipes are part of an existing active distribution main line supplying water to the residents in Larteh.

He claimed that on 12 December 2023, at around 6:30 p.m., the police responded to a complaint call about Asare.

According to Daase, the cost of an eight-inch ductile iron pipe is approximately GHC13,000. So, the estimated cost of the 23 pipes totaled GHC299, 000.

“The company has been confronted with numerous cases of meter stealing, removal of metallic covers from its chambers, stealing of electric cable from its plants in recent times,” he added.

The case has been referred to the police to investigate.
