Freezy MacBones to decide on Olympics participation after Konate rematch
Freezy Macbones who lost to Konate in a middleweight (80kg) Round of 32 clash on points at the 2024 Olympic Games qualifiers in Cameroon in September is set to take on the Senegalese in a rematch on Saturday
Ghanaian boxer Seth Gyimah popularly known as Freezy MacBones says he will decide on whether to remain pro or continue with the amateur team in search of a place in next year’s Olympics in Paris after his epic rematch with former African champion Seydou Konate, of Senegal.
Freezy Macbones lost to Konate in a middleweight (80kg) Round of 32 clash on points at the 2024 Olympic Games qualifiers in Cameroon in September.
Speaking on Asaase Radio’s Rush Hour show on Monday, MacBones said: “I’m still in the learning process, my professional record still has nothing to do with amateur boxing.”
“It’s like now I’m back to senior high school (amateur boxing), unless I make up my mind I don’t want to fight in amateur anymore.”
After the defeat in September, the 33-year-old was among 12 boxers who failed to secure early qualification to the Olympics.
MacBones has now found himself in the middle of his professional boxing career or joining the Ghana Amateur Boxing team to seek Olympic qualification in Italy next February.
When asked if he wanted to make that decision, he said, “I will make that decision after the Konate fight.”
“Because now first things first, let me focus on this guy after that fight, I will make that decision if I’m going back to pro or I’ll to be part of the national team to go to Italy.”- he added.
