Fuel tanker explodes in Damongo

According to eyewitnesses, the tyres and other parts of the vehicle caught fire while on its way to discharge the fuel before it subsequently exploded

A fuel tanker on Wednesday evening (15 December) exploded at a bus terminal in Damongo in the West Gonja Municipality of the Savannah Region, eyewitnesses told Asaase Radio.

According to eyewitnesses, the tyres and other parts of the vehicle caught fire while on its way to discharge the fuel before it subsequently exploded.

The driver and his assistant escaped unscathed.

Fire fighters who were at the scene to douse the blaze are yet to establish the source of the fire.

Similar incident

At least three persons died in May this year after a fuel tanker overturned and caught fire at Onyina Nofo, a community in the Ahafo Ano South West District of the Ashanti Region.

According to eyewitnesses, the fuel tanker lost control and rammed into a passenger vehicle on the Kumasi-Tepa road.
