The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has begun interviewing shortlisted applicants for the position of a technical director.
The position became vacant this month following the exit of Francis Oti Akenteng whose contract expired at the end of March this year.
When it became clear that Oti Akenteng was heading for the exit, the GFA opened applications for the position. According to the Association, it received more than a hundred applications from home and abroad.
The applications have since been pruned to six – three of them from expatriates.
Although the ban on movement in the Greater Accra Region has been lifted, a GFA select committee is interviewing applicants by video conference.
The new technical director will be responsible for the technical development of the Association, the GFA says. His other responsibilities will be to plan and execute a long-term view of how to continually raise standards and innovations both on and off the pitch.
He will also be expected to ensure that the path from development teams (the junior national squads) to Ghana’s senior teams for men (the Black Stars) and women (the Black Queens) are always integrated. The winning candidate will also ensure that learning is shared and the basic principles of how the teams play are integrated.
The committee is expected to submit its report to the GFA Executive Council, which will accept or reject the recommended candidate.
