GFA unveils Milovan Rajevac as new Black Stars coach

Milovan Rajevac is making a return to coach the Black Stars after leading the country to the quarter-finals of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) on Friday unveiled Milovan Rajevac as the new coach of the Black Stars.

Rajevac will work alongside Otto Addo and Maxwell Konadu as his assistants.

Rajevac signed a one-year deal with the GFA. It is expected this will be extended if he is able to qualify the team for the 2022 World Cup.

He has been placed on a US$30,000 monthly salary with a bonus of US$300,000 if Ghana qualifies to the World Cup under his leadership. He is also expected to pay his own interpreter.

Expectations

Rajevac is expected to improve the play of the Black Stars, win the 2022 African Cup of Nations and qualify the team for the World Cup in Qatar.

The Serbian has been in the country since Sunday, after reaching an agreement with the GFA to succeed C K Akonnor.

Akonnor and his assistants, David Duncan and Dutchman Patrick Greveraars, were fired this month.

Rajevac is making a return to the country after almost 11 years. He led the national team to the quarter-finals of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

He also got Ghana to the final of the maiden edition of CHAN (the African Championship of Nations) in 2009 and the following year led the team into the final of AFCON 2010 in Angola, losing 1-0 to Egypt.

Rajevac left his role on 8 September 2010, after receiving an offer from Al-Ahli in Saudi Arabia that guaranteed him US$2 million per year.
