Ghana Army joins three others to fight terrorism

Chief of Army Staff Major General Thomas Oppong-Peprah urged personnel who will be taking part in the training to comport themselves and stay focused throughout the training

The Ghana Arm Forces will be participating, for the first time, in a large scale multinational counter terrorism training exercise in Morocco.

The exercise which is dubbed “Exercise African Lion” 2022 will bring together the Ghana Army to train alongside the American, Moroccan, Senegalese and the Tunisian armies. The training began Saturday, 11 June and ends 30 June.

Speaking at the pre-departure parade on Friday, the Chief of Army Staff Major General Thomas Oppong-Peprah urged personnel who will be taking part in the training to comport themselves and stay focused throughout the training.

“When you get to Morocco, you are ambassadors of this country, so comport yourselves very well, stay focused on what you’re suppose to be doing and ensure that you excel.”

“We believe that modern threats cannot be fought with one country. It has to be a consented effort and so today, you are going to Morocco to take part in an exercise. All these are geared towards building capacity for us to meet our assigned task.”

Also speaking at the parade, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshall Frank Hanson encouraged the personnel to be good ambassadors of Ghana.

“Your preparedness to deploy beyond the boundaries of Ghana and to participate in an exercise with international forces. I am very proud that Ghana Air Force is an essential part of this exercise. We wish you well. Be good ambassadors of this country”.

The objective of the training are to, among others, improve the Army’s ability to plan and conduct Counter Violent Extremist operations, improve air to ground integration between the Ghana Army and Ghana Air Force, enhance force interoperability as well as expose troops to multinational operational training
