Police clash with #FixTheCountry protestors at Accra High Court

The clash occurred at the hearing of a case in which the police are seeking a restraining order against the group’s intended demonstration

The police on Friday (4 June) clashed with the convenors of the #FixTheCountry protest at the premises of the Accra High Court.

Convenors of the #FixTheCountry protest were scheduled to appear before the court after the police secured an ex parte injunction against a demonstration slated for 9 May.

The protestors alleged that the police deliberately prevented them from entering the court premises.

The police thus expressed concern over the manner in which they appeared in court which allegedly ignited the clash.

The police say the actions of the protestors at the court premises may mar the beauty and ethics of the court.

Speaking with the media, ACP Kwasi Ofori said “…We decided among other things that they could leave those placards and flags and then also limit that militancy and go to the court as individuals.”

The court presided over by Justice Ruby Aryeetey has adjourned hearing to Monday 14 June 2021.

Earlier, an Accra High Court banned the organisers of the #FixTheCountry campaign from going on their planned protest on 9 May 2021.
