Guyana eyes direct flights from Ghana to strengthen bilateral relations and to boost trade

Guyana’s Minister of Information, Kwame McCoy has said direct flights from Ghana to Guyana would boost trade and investments between the two countries

Guyana’s Minister of Information, Kwame McCoy has said Guyana is eyeing the establishment of a direct flight from Ghana to further strengthen bilateral relations and to boost trade between both countries.

Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Tuesday (3 October), McCoy said, “There is an air services agreement with Ghana that dates back to 2019 and it’s for the private sector to now capitalize on that agreement and to establish the flights that are required.

“It makes a lot of sense for trade and other purposes. We can see this bringing benefits for our people and indeed we will continue to pursue to ensure that we get to that point where we can have direct flights from Guyana to Ghana.

He added, “So for us, it is something that is practical and of course in the near future we can see this [direct flights] happening…”

McCoy said Ghana and Guyana have a good relationship, adding that “we are working to tap into the opportunities that can be derived from Ghana, especially the private sector.”

The Information Minister is in the country with his colleague minister, Collin Croal, Minister of Housing and Water to participate in the 66th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference in Accra.

The event is under the theme of “The Commonwealth Charter 10 years on: Values and Principles for Parliaments to Uphold.”

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Commonwealth Charter which outlines the principles and values of the Commonwealth.
