Jean-Marie Formadi challenges electoral process in Biakoye

Formadi asked that the process be stopped because the constituency’s director of elections was not using the voters’ register

Jean-Marie Formadi, a parliamentary aspirant in the Biakoye Constituency of the Oti Region has challenged the electoral process.

The process began at 8:45am with about 1,219 delegates expected to cast their votes.

Formadi asked that the process be stopped because the constituency’s director of elections was not using the voters’ register.

She said, “At a point during voting, I realized the election director was not using the voters’ register…no due process to follow to enhance the smooth running of the election, …I had to stop them.”

She stated that, the voter register was available but she does not know why it was not used. The election process was suspended for about 30 minutes. Only 75 delegates had voted at the time.

The police intervened and calmed the situation before the process continued at 10:15am.

Formadi is optimistic she will emerge the winner at the end of the polls.

In an interview with Asaase News, she said there has not been any town hall meeting since the incumbent member of parliament (MP) was voted into power.

She said the MP does not know the needs of the constituents and has not brought much development to the area.

She said, “I am ready to work with other candidates who contested but could not win so that we can support and pull votes for John Mahama to win the 2024 general election.”
