Julius Malema and supporters protest outside Israeli embassy in South Africa

Julius Malema leader of South Africa's political party, the Economic Freedom Fighters protest nad boycott Israeli elements.

Julius Malema, leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), defends Hamas and criticizes Israel’s actions in Palestine.

He calls for the closure of the Israeli Embassy in Pretoria and the expulsion of Israel’s ambassador to South Africa.

Malema also urged retailers in the country to remove Israeli-produced goods from their shelves by the end of October. “If they don’t remove products from Israel, we’ll remove them ourselves. We don’t want Israeli products sold in South Africa; we don’t want food from people who have the blood of innocent people on their hands,” said Malema.

On Friday, the governing African National Congress (ANC) picketed similarly outside Israel’s embassy. ANC Deputy Secretary General Nomvula Mokonyane called on South Africans to boycott imports from Israel in solidarity with the Palestinians.

Malema compares the arrogance of apartheid-era South Africa with that of Israel’s government, saying, “The people who are on the Palestine side have always been very reasonable… the arrogance of Netanyahu, the arrogance of Israeli apartheid government, the arrogance of the Minister of Defence, you can see that these are the people that think that they are the superpowers and they are the chosen god.”

He highlights how reasonable approaches failed against apartheid, leading to armed resistance for liberation.

Malema emphasizes the reasonableness of those supporting Palestine compared to the arrogance of Israel’s government.

Those supporting Palestine are portrayed as reasonable, while Israel’s government is seen as arrogant and unyielding. The influence of America, NATO, and the UK is criticized for encouraging Israel’s behaviour.

Malema and the EFF supports a two-state solution where Israelis and Palestinians coexist peacefully.

However, they reject appearing weak or cowardly in front of Israel. They call for stopping Israeli aggression before reaching an agreement. According to the EFF protests, confronting arrogance is necessary to ensure commitment to any future agreement.
