Kpando Dzawoe youth to establish “sanitary pads bank” for vulnerable girls

The project was birthed by a newly installed warlord of the community, Togbui Dzablu IV with support from concerned citizens of the community

The youth of Kpando Dzawoe in the Volta Region have initiated a project to supply free sanitary pads to adolescent girls each month.

The project was conceived by a newly installed warlord of the community, Togbui Dzablu IV, with support from concerned members of the community.

The warlord said the initiative was motivated by their “notice the importance of menstruation in women and the importance of protecting them during these periods, especially among the younger school-going girls.

“Some of these girls who cannot afford a sanitary pad during menstruation skip school for one week while their male counterparts are in school throughout. Meanwhile, they all write the same final exam.”

He stated that, “those who wouldn’t want to skip school tend to seek favours from men who, in turn, demand for other sexual favours from them leading to teenage pregnancy. We have decided to establish a sanitary pads bank to be able to cater for all these.”

Togbui Dzablu IV, who works as a morning show host on Dela Radio in Adidome, appealed for support to see the full realisation of this initiative. He said “we are therefore asking philanthropists and organizations to help by donating sanitary pads to help this project.”

The project will be officially launched on Sunday, 9 April. There will be a fundraising event on the day of the launch in aid of purchase of sanitary pads for the project.

Under the auspices of Togbui Dzablu IV, the Kpando Dzawoe Youth Foundation will also be inaugurated during the Easter celebration with a focus on bringing together young people from the community, home and abroad.
