Lands ministry and GAF re-affirm commitment to fight illegal mining

The lands minister Samuel Jinapor says he will collaborate more with the forces this year to protect forest reserves among others

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor has commended the Ghana Armed Forces for their unalloyed support in the fight against illegal mining.

Speaking during a courtesy call on the Chief of Defence Staff, Vice Admiral Seth Amoama on Thursday (5 January), Jinapor said his ministry enjoys the tremendous support from the Ghana Armed Forces in the implementation of projects aimed at protecting the environment such as Green Ghana.

In the area of illegal mining, Jinapor observed that the Ghana Armed Forces have played a frontal role in the battle and that the strides made would not have been possible without the diligent and selfless work of the military.

He, however, indicated that 2023 presents an opportunity for his outfit as well as the army to collaborate closely and step up the fight to stamp out illegal mining activities.

Jinapor said he will collaborate more with the forces this year to protect forest reserves among others.

The Chief of Defense Staff Amoama said that the frequent engagement initiated by the ministry with the Armed Forces is indicative of the premium and appreciation the government places on its relationship with the army.

He assured that the military’s commitment to the fight against illegal mining remains resolute.
