Linking Ghana Card to multiple SIM cards not a breach of data, says NCA

The head of consumer and corporate affairs at the NCA said, “If you check and you find out that there are SIM cards linked to your Ghana Card without your knowledge, it doesn’t mean that your data has been breached”

The National Communications Authority (NCA) has said linking a mobile phone subscriber’s Ghana Card to multiple SIM cards is not a breach of their data.

Some mobile phone subscribers have, since the introduction of the verification code on 1 May, discovered that their Ghana Cards have been linked to multiple SIM cards without their knowledge.

Speaking to Kwaku Nhyira-Addo on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Tuesday (2 May), the head of consumer and corporate affairs at the NCA, Nana Dufie Badu, called on affected persons to contact their service providers to delink unknown SIM cards from their Ghana Card.

She said, “If you check and you find out that there are SIM cards linked to your Ghana Card without your knowledge, it doesn’t mean that your data has been breached.

“All that it means is that some agent who registered you may have taken your Ghana Card details and used it to pre-register someone using the old method without your knowledge.

“And so, if this happens, what consumers are supposed to do, is to go to the service provider office and request for a delinking of that particular SIM card.”
