Mamadou Bah Oury appointed prime minister of Guinea

Economist and politician Mamadou Bah Oury has been appointed prime minister of the Republic of Guinea by the president of the transition.

Economist and politician Mamadou Bah Oury has been appointed as prime minister of the Republic of Guinea on the evening of Tuesday, February 27, 2024.

Bah Oury was designated as Prime Minister by the head of the transitional government, Mamado Doumbouya, who seized power in a coup in September 2021.

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) imposed sanctions on the country, but later lifted them, along with Niger on the 25 February 2024, in an attempt to restore unity to the regional bloc.

Abdoulaye Kourouma, president of the RRD (Rally for Renaissance and Development), a minority political group has congratulated Mamadou Bah Oury on this appointment.

Kourouma has urged to immediately open a framework of inclusive dialogue to promote diplomacy and to ensure that Guinea returns to constitutional order as soon as possible.

He also believes that it is necessary to give him the benefit of the doubt to the new Prime Minister to allow him to work inclusively.
