Men must sometimes submit to their wives, says Wengam

Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Thursday (12 January), Rev Stephen Wengam says the family plays a vital role in the development of nations

The general superintendent of the Assemblies of God Church, Ghana Rev Stephen Wengam has admonished men to submit to their wives if the need arises in marriage.

Wengam said selfishness is now a major contributory factor to divorce in Ghana.

Speaking on the topic “value systems of family, church and state” on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Thursday (12 January), Wengam said the family plays a vital role in the development of nations.

“The Bible states clearly that women should submit to their husbands,” the religious leader told the host Kwaku Nhyira-Addo. “This is true, but at the same time Paul tells people to submit to one another … there are times the man must submit to the wife.”

“Selfishness is one feature that is causing a lot of divorce in this day and age. You will find partners trying to identify within each other, a feature that they themselves refuse to exhibit.

“Strong families make strong nations. This is why God created family first before the nation … Governments and corporate bodies must pay careful attention to the families of their employees,” Wengam added.
