MOG: I’m not against gospel musicians collaborating with secular artistes

The gospel sensation says there is nothing wrong with gospel musicians doing music with artistes from other music genres

Award-winning gospel musician, Nana Yaw Boakye, better known on stage as MOG Music has said he is not against gospel musicians collaborating with secular artistes.

Speaking on Between Hours with Naa Ashorkor, the ‘Be Lifted’ hit-maker said there is nothing wrong with gospel musicians doing music with artistes from other music genres, stressing the song must inspire and draw the listener closer to God.

“I don’t have any problem once it’s depicting the gospel of Jesus Christ as it’s presented and all that. If we are preaching Christ, if we are preaching love and unity, I’m for it,” he said.

MOG Music also called for unity within the industry.

“The relationship and the bonding is very important to me because there are things that you can talk about when you have relationship. There are certain impact you cannot make on a normal day when you are preaching gospel on the stage.”

Criticisms after VGMA win

The gospel musician said he suffered public backlash after winning the best male vocalist award at the VGMA.

“After I won VGMA, people started saying that, ‘we don’t know him, who is this, why did he win this award’. But after all the controversies and people started discovering the works I’ve done all these years and all that and they’ve realised that I’ve being in the system for a while now,” MOG Music said.

Winning the male vocalist of the year award twice in a row, the “God of Miracles” singer said the recognitions served as “a good platform and it helped me as artiste to showcase what I have.”

Focus on your passion

The gospel sensation advised upcoming gospel musicians to concentrate on their passion to do God’s work, adding: “It’s passion driven, if you come with the business mind, you may end up failing but if you are driven by purpose and passion, you will make it.”

He said at the appropriate time the blessings will follow.

“Be a blessing to the souls that listen to you, impact their lives because that’s our goal to impact the lives of those who listen to us. Once that has been established, then you start experiencing the blessings.”
