Resigned AirtelTigo CEO appointed CEO of MTN Rwanda

Telecom giant, MTN Inc has appointed resigned AirtelTigo CEO, Mitwa Kaemba Ng’ambi as CEO of MTN Rwanda.

Mitwa Kaemba Ng’ambi’s appointment comes days after she officially resigned as AirtelTigo CEO sighting personal reasons.

Mitwa Ng’ambi joined AirtelTigo over a year ago, and during her tenure, the company saw to the successful completion of the merger as well as the establishment of the new company’s vision and values.

She has been instrumental in stabilizing the business, positioning it well for further growth. While she would be sorely missed, the board, management and staff, thanked her for the invaluable contribution she made and wished her every success for the future.

In a parting statement to staff, Mitwa Ng’ambi said: “over the past one year, I look back with so much pride and gratitude and I look ahead into the future of AirtelTigo with so much excitement.”

However, in announcing her appointment, the MTN Group described the former AirtelTigo CEO as not only a seasoned leader, with a strong background in commercial and technology but also someone with the unique experience of leading mergers and acquisitions in the telecom industry.

“Ng’ambi, is a seasoned leader with a career spanning more than 10 years in telecoms and returns to MTN where she previously held the role of Chief Marketing Officer at MTN Benin and several other roles at MTN Zambia. She has a strong background in commercial and technology with a track record of driving business strategy for growth, as well as developing high-performing teams. She also has the unique experience of leading mergers and acquisitions in the telecom industry,” it stated.

Mitwa Kaemba Ng’ambi is the second CEO to resign from AirtelTigo in less than 3 years following the resignation of Roshi Motman after Airtel and Tigo officially merged into one entity.

Mitwa Kaemba Ng’ambi joins MTN from Airtel Tigo Ghana, where she held the role of CEO. Prior to which, she was CEO of Tigo Senegal. She has a Masters Degree in Computer Science from the University of Joensuu, Finland and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science from the University of Namibia.
