YEA’s Ibrahim Bashiru files nomination to contest Tempane parliamentary primary; promises new hope and leadership

He makes a first entry into the race which would see the election of a suitable candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in its efforts to recapture the seat from the opposition NDC

The deputy chief executive officer in charge of operations at the Youth Employment Agency, Alhaji Ibrahim Bashiru, has filed his nomination to contest the New Patriotic Party parliamentary primary in the Tempane constituency of the Upper East Region.

Alhaji Bashiru filed the paperwork on Wednesday (2 August), with a clarion call on the party delegates to vote massively for his candidature which promises a new direction of leadership and hope for the people of Tempane.

Alhaji Bashiru addressed a crowd of supporters who matched with him to file his nomination at the constituency party office, where he also assured to give the people of Tempane a better representation in Parliament than have seen before and prioritize the wellbeing of both the aged and the youth.

” I have filed my nomination to become the parliamentary candidate and subsequently become the member of parliament for the Tempane constituency. I am here to change the direction of how Tempane has been governed previously and today. I want to change the direction and make sure that Tempane is given a better representation in parliament,” he told the cheering gathering.

Alhaji Bashiru makes a first entry into the race which would see the election of a suitable candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in its efforts to recapture the seat from the opposition National Democratic Congress. For Bashiru, his unsoiled reputation with which he has served in various capacity to contribute to nation building, makes him the best bet for the NPP as far as winning the seat and increasing the party fortunes in the Tempane constituency is concerned.

He also added that his sense of humility, ability to live and interact with the people devoid of discrimination puts him atop of other contenders. Alhaji Bashiru stressed that what the Tempane constituency needed to champion its development is a leader who was accessible, approachable and compassionate towards their problems. He touted that he had all those qualities, adding delegates needed not to look beyond his candidature in selecting a suitable parliamentary candidate.

“I will run my office with humility, transparency and a level of respect that the people of Tempane need. The people need someone who is accessible and care about their problems and to help them to find solutions to them. I am that person and that is why my message is new hope, new direction. I was born and bred in Basyonde and I am for the betterment of the people and development of the area,”

On unity, Alhaji Bashiru vowed to build a formidable party by bringing the party faithful together through periodic engagements.

He noted that unity among the party folk was pivotal in helping the NPP win the seat and improve its gains in the 2024 general elections.

To start with, Alhaji Bashiru advised his supporters to desist from mudslinging and using hate speech against his opponents in the heat up to the primary. He said the primary election was a contest of ideas and he was not going to tolerate attacks by his supporters against his opponents. He was hopeful his message would resonate well with the delegates to endorse his candidature to subsequently win and rescue Tempane from the mess of its current leadership.

“I have advised my supporters that this is an internal contest, nobody should attack my opponent who are also coming. Nobody should attack my senior brother lawyer Kpemka who is also contesting. Politics of insults and attack is not my character,” Alhaji Bashiru cautioned.
