North East Region: Minister calls for support to fight armed robbery

Armed robbers have been terrorising residents in the North East Region with mobile money vendors being easy targets

Yidana Zakaria, the North East Regional Minister has called for support from the chiefs in the region to help combat armed robbery and other criminal activities.

The spate of armed robbery, especially, in the West Mamprusi Municipality has been rising as mobile money vendors and owners of provision stores in some parts of the municipality cannot transact business beyond 7 PM.

The minister admitted that armed robbery has become a worrying situation in the region and it is time for the chiefs, stakeholders, and power brokers to come together to fight the menace.

He said there is relative peace in the region but some bandits have been attacking unsuspecting residents on the roads.

The minister was speaking during the Damma festival organised by the paramount chief of the Soo Traditional Area, Naamaligu Seidu Nantomah with the theme, “Mobilizing Together for Sustainable Development.”

Yidana said, “The chief are the custodians of our lands and I don’t think our chiefs are happy with these criminal activities on the roads every day. This isn’t good news. So we will work together with the chiefs to fish out the bandits.

“All the chiefs in this land are praying for peace but there are some people who are engaged in criminal activities on our roads. I am talking about armed robbers. Forgive my language, not all of them are strangers, some are natives. We will not accept those bad nuts today, we will not accept them tomorrow,” Yidana said.
