The police have killed an armed robber and shot three accomplices on the Walewale-Nalerigu stretch of road in the West Mamprusi municipality of the North East Region.

The police said the bandits had blocked the main road with logs in Gaagbini, a rural town in the West Mamprusi municipality, to rob unsuspecting passengers.

Upon receiving a report, a police patrol team rushed to the scene and exchanged fire with the robbers.

The North East regional acting police spokesperson ASP Robert Anabik Anmain told Asaase News three of the robbers escaped with gunshot wounds.

“It was between 1 and 2am, the police in Walewale received reports that some armed robbers have blocked the Walewale-Gambaga-Nalerigu road and were robbing vehicles on the road.

“Actually two vehicles, a Nissan pick up and then a sprinter bus came to the Walewale police station to make that report. The robbers upon seeing the police started firing at them, they were four in number,” ASP Anmain said.
