North East, Savannah regional Lands Commission offices inaugurated

The new offices is in line with Article 258 and 260(1) of the 1992 constitution which mandates the creation Lands Commission regional offices across the country

The Lands Commission has extended its footprint to the newly created regions following the commissioning of digitalised offices in the North East and the Savannah Regions.

This is in line with Article 258 and 260(1) of the 1992 constitution which mandates the creation of the Lands Commission’s regional offices across the country.

The inaugural ceremony of the North East Lands Commission Regional office took place on Tuesday, 9th August 2022 at the Regional Coordinating Council at Nalerigu.

The North East regional minister Zakaria Yidanah, who chaired the ceremony expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the government and Management of the Commission for bringing their services close to the people of Nalerigu and beyond to ensure efficient and effective land administration in the region.

The Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources in charge of lands and forestry, Benito Owusu-Bio, also touched on the government’s decision to decentralize government initiatives, policies and information to all parts of the country thus the establishment of Regional Offices.

Benito Owusu-Bio also highlighted the functions of the Commission and the importance of land registration. He urged the people of the North East region to take advantage of the development in resolving all land related issues.

The National Chairman of the Lands Commission lawyer Alex Quaynor, commissioned the Savannah Region lands commission office on Wednesday 10th August, 2022 on behalf of Benito Owusu-Bio, the Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources in charge of Lands and Forestry.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Lawyer Quaynor, stressed the significance of the Lands Commission in serving government and the general public, particularly in managing public lands and other lands vested in the President as prescribed by the constitution.

He said “land is a strategic asset which forms the basis of every development activity and hence the need for formal land administration to promote development at all levels.”

The National Chairman also stated that the creation of the Lands Commission office in the region will help advise the government, local authorities and traditional authorities on the policy framework for the development of the region and the entire country.

The Savannah Regional Minister, Saeed Muhazu Jibril, in his remarks thanked the President for the creation of 6 new regions and for the provisions that have been made so far to enable the regions thrive.

He recounted how they had to travel miles to Tamale to access the services of the Commission and was grateful to the President for the creation of the new regions.
