NPP flagbearer race: Alan is the only marketable candidate, says Ahenkorah

The leading member of the Alan campaign team said the former trade minister stands tall in terms of experience and ideas to ensure that the party "breaks the 8"

The MP for Tema West, Carlos Ahenkorah believes the only marketable candidate among the 10 aspiring flagbearers of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) is former Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen.

The leading member of the Alan campaign team said the former trade minister stands tall in terms of experience and ideas to ensure that the party “breaks the 8”.

Appearing on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Friday (25 August) ahead of the NPP special electoral college election on Saturday, Ahenkorah said Alan is the only candidate, who has outlined policies that can turn around the fortunes of Ghana’s economy.

“You have somebody like Alan who has this plan to support the economy and ensure that the nosedive will stop by ensuring that we produce import substitute here, so that our import burden becomes less and also export more,” the former deputy trade minister said.

“He has come out with what we call ‘strategic anchor industries’ which are new growth pole to support the economy of Ghana alongside the cocoa, timber and gold that we have been relying on.

“If Alan is put in one silo and you put all the others in another silo to just come out with the good deeds out of these people, you won’t go too far to realise that there is only one person that you can market, as far as the economy is concerned among the 10,” Ahenkorah added.
