NPP primaries: Boako leads Prempeh in Tano North with 78.9%, says National Security survey

The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) is set to hold parliamentary primaries across the country on 27 January

A poll conducted by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) has indicated that Dr Gideon Boako, the spokesperson to the vice-president, will win the New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s parliamentary primaries in the Tano North.

According to the research findings, Boako will win the contest between him and the incumbent MP Freda Prempeh, who also doubles as the Minister for Water and Sanitation overwhelmingly.

The poll, which was announced on Asempa FM in Accra, stated that about 79% of NPP delegates in the Tano North constituency have indicated that they will vote for Boako while 16% of the delegates have indicated to vote for the incumbent lawmaker.

However, 5% of the delegates were undecided at the time of the poll.

The report, which used quantitative research design and computerised assessed telephone interviewing (CAT) technology, focused on assessing the candidates based on their vision and competence, with delegates being prioritised based on these key criteria

Delegates prioritised these key criteria in their decision-making process.

The report highlights the delegates’ dissatisfaction with the incumbent MP’s inability to address constituents’ job-related concerns, leading them to rally behind Boako. Delegates trust in Boako’s competence to execute the party’s vision and mandate with confidence, anticipating his ability to secure a significant victory in the Tano North Constituency.

Interestingly, across all constituencies nationwide, Boako stands out as the sole aspirant challenging a sitting Member of Parliament and has taken a commanding lead.

The polls will be held on 27 January 2024 and nearly 700 delegates will cast their votes.
