Manaf Ibrahim, a former head of political affairs at the office of the Vice President has been elected parliamentary candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Asawase Constituency of the Ashanti Region.
Manaf polled 765 of the total votes defeating his main contender and Ashanti regional director of the Micro-Finance and Small Loans Center (MASLOC), Hajia Zainab Sallow.
She garnered 229 votes.
In what appeared to be a family race, Manaf’s uncle Osman Yussif placed third with only nine votes.
The Asawase constituency is the NDC’s safest seat in the governing party’s stronghold.
Ibrahim in his victory speech pledged to unite the party to snatch the seat from Muntaka Mubarak, the sitting MP.
