NSS personnel threaten to strike over unpaid arrears

According to the group, NSS personnel have not been paid for the month of April, a situation they say is having a toll on them

A group calling itself Concerned National Service Personnel has said that it will withdraw its services beginning today (30 May) should the management of the National Service Scheme fail to address their concerns.

According to the group, NSS personnel have not been paid for the month of April, a situation they say is having a toll on them.

Speaking in an interview with Asaase News, a member of the group and president of the National Service Personnel Association for the Mfantseman Municipality, Nicholas Amissah Mensah said they will also embark on a demonstration if their grievances are not addressed.

“The issue with April allowance has not been paid, and from the look of things, it has been delayed and this is causing harm to the service at post.

“So we have come together to draw a conclusion that all National Service Personnel across the country should withdraw their services at post starting from Monday, but the issue is we met the management of NSS and the NASPA executives and they said that the allowance will be paid within this week so they are pleading with us to back down from the strike actions,” Mensah said.

“But we are now waiting for their communique to be released in order to also back it with our communique. We are not going to work until we see their communique based on the discussions we had.”

Meanwhile, the National Service Personnel Association has released a communique on Sunday (29 May) promising to pay the April allowance on or before Wednesday (1 June).
