Frank Fenuku Jnr, a footballer, was arrested at Zongo Junction in Adenta, Greater Accra, a police statement said on Wednesday.

Fenuku and his three accomplices, who are already in police custody, allegedly created a Facebook page in the name of the Volta Region police chief, DCOP Edward Oduro Kwateng, advertising to assist potential applicants to be enlisted into the Ghana Police Service.

Fake protocol slots

“Further investigation into the development revealed [that a] sim card with the number 055 791 8534, contained in the Facebook ad which aided the nefarious operations of the suspect and his accomplices, was found in the possession of suspect Frank Fenuku Junior,” the statement said.

“Suspect during interrogation admitted being the mastermind behind the false Facebook publication created in the name of the Volta Regional Police Commander, DCOP Edward Oduro Kwateng.

“Suspect gave further details on how he conspired with others to swindle unsuspecting victims of their monies under the pretext of allocating protocol slots for them in the ongoing Police Service recruitment.”

It is expected the 21-year-old suspect will be arraigned in court today (Thursday 30 September 2021).

The three other suspects are Amenya Bernard, 18, Adikah Godsway, 23, and Wemegah Godson, 21.

Be vigilant

The police have cautioned the public to be vigilant over the numerous recruitment scams because the police in the region is not “responsible for recruiting persons into the service.”

The police spokesperson in the Volta Region, DSP Effia Tenge further noted that, in their fight against recruitment scam in the region “the police have arrested a total of five suspects in the past weeks,” adding that, those who have fallen victims of such crime must not hesitate to report to the police.
