Regional minister: NPP hasn’t neglected Ashanti Region

Simon Osei-Mensah said there are several legacy projects ongoing in the Ashanti Region and that the government has not neglected its stronghold

The Ashanti regional minister, Simon Osei-Mensah, has disputed claims that the ruling New Patriotic Party, led by President Akufo-Addo, has neglected the region.

According to the regional minister, claims that the Akufo Addo-led administration has abandoned the region are false and must be rejected.

Osei-Mensah who reacted to these claims at a press conference on Thursday (3 November, said such claims do not reflect the true situation on the ground.

“As much as I agree that we have not received all the projects needed in the region, I will be the last person to accept the allegation that the Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo Addo-led NPP government has neglected the Ashanti Region in development projects.”

According to him, “There are several legacy projects ongoing in the region. some have been commissioned in the area of education, aviation, health, local government, transport, judiciary, and road sector, etc.”

Touting the achievements of the president in the region, the minister alleged that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), while in office from 2009 to January 2017, never commissioned a hospital in the region.

“Since 2009 up to 2017, not a single hospital was commissioned in this region. Under President Addo-Dankwa Akufo Addo’s tenure, the president has commissioned at least three of them, Bekwai Hospital within Bekwai Municipality, Ahafo Ano North Municipal Hospital which is at Tepa, and recently the Asante-Akyem Central hospital at Konongo.”

He, however, appealed to residents in the region to rally behind the government as it implements measures to restore the country’s economic stability.
