Residents appeal to government to complete work on abandoned Nasia-Janga road

The residents appealed to the government to consider recalling the contractor to the community to complete the work

Residents of Janga in the West Mamprusi Municipality of the North East Region have called on the government to complete work on the Janga-Nasia road, which has been abandoned, they say, since 2018.

The residents appealed to the government to consider recalling the contractor to the community to complete the work, as he moved his construction equipment out of the area almost a year ago.

According to the residents, the poor state of the road has affected economic activity in the community and nearby towns and villages.

Since a sod-cutting ceremony by President Akufo-Addo and Vice-President Bawumia in July 2018, not much work has been done on the road, they said. At the ceremony, it was announced that the road would be completed within a year.

In 2020, the contractor worked on the first phase of construction, laying gravel on the road from Nasia to Janga. In early 2022, he tarred six kilometres of the road from Nasia to Nakpaya and one kilometre in Janga township. This has left 18.7 kilometres of the road untarred and with potholes.

The regional minister, Yidana Zakaria, responding to the appeal, said that the government would look into the concerns residents have raised.
