“Soldier”, others arrested on suspicion of robbery in Tamale

Four other men have also been arrested in connection with the robbery, which took place along the Buipe-Tamale highway over the weekend

A man in military uniform named Mohammed Mustapha has been arrested in connection with a robbery in Tamale in the Northern Region.

Four others, namely Ibrahim Issah, Vivor Christopher, Benjamin Agyei and Seyram Addo, were arrested in connection with the same incident.

The five men were arrested by a police patrol team in Buipe. They are behind bars over the theft of a 2020 Toyota Camry vehicle and other items from a residential property.

According to a police report quoted by the Daily Guide newspaper, the suspects attacked and robbed the victims while they were at home on 23 January 2022.

The Buipe highway patrol team on duty at the Sawaba police checkpoint along the Buipe-Tamale highway was alerted. Officers in the team intercepted and arrested the suspects in two vehicles, bearing the registration numbers AS8445-19 and GX6923-20, in connection with the crime and despatched them to Buipe Police Station for interrogation and further investigation.

The police retrieved from the suspects 13 mobile phones, one Falcon foreign pistol loaded with 9mm ammunition, a wallet containing a bunch of keys together with keys to two sets of handcuffs, two voter ID cards, a Melcom shopping card, Access Bank card and a sum of cash amounting to GHC21.20.

Other items such as military uniforms, a police ballistics helmet and police uniforms were also found in the Toyota Camry Spider with the registration number GX6923-20.
