Harmonious Chorale Ghana participates in African choral and gospel championship
Harmonious Chorale was crowned champion of the World Choir Games (Category C28) in its maiden participation in 2018 in South Africa
The multiple award-winning choir, The Harmonious Chorale Ghana has left Ghana to participate in the maiden edition of the African Choral and Gospel Championship (ACGC) taking place in Rwanda from 23 to 28 March 2022.
Hosted in the capital, Kigali, the ACGC event seeks to showcase African talents through music and to promote cultural tourism.
Regarded as one of the best choirs in Africa, Harmonious Chorale will be featuring in the competitive event, unity concerts, the opening and closing ceremony. In an interview with the Public Relations Director of the choir Emmanuel Osae-Nyarko on the readiness of the choir for the festival, he intimated that “this event presents a new challenge for the choir because of our decision to compete in two categories as the Harmonious Chorale Male Chorus and the Harmonious Chorale Female Chorus which is not usual for a mixed choir. Nonetheless, we are poised to present the very best to the whole of Africa.”
A 34-member team including instrumentalists is representing the Harmonious Chorale for the event.
This year’s event has choirs from several African countries like South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, and Rwanda.
Harmonious Chorale was crowned champion of the World Choir Games (Category C28) in its maiden participation in 2018 in South Africa. The choir also received the Gold Award in the Mixed Adult Choir Category at the World Peace Choral Festival, 2021.
In 2019, It also received the 2nd Runner up award in the first appearance of a West African Choir at the International Festival of Orthodox Liturgical Music (professional category) in Poland and a special Diploma in promoting orthodox music in Africa. The choir has also won many other awards including “Choir of the Year” at the GHYouth Choir Choral Festival and Awards from 2015 to 2017 and 2019. The choir also received the prestigious Best Choral Group award at the Shine Awards in 2018.
Harmonious Chorale serves as the resident choir of Salt and Light Ministries.
