The Sunyani traditional council has announced a ban on noise-making in its jurisdiction effective Friday (28 July) to Thursday (24 August).
The one-month ban on all forms of noise-making and drumming comes in the wake of the demise of the paramount chief of the Sunyani Traditional area, Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri II, which happened in July 2022 after a short illness.
As tradition demands, the council has ordered the closure of stores, shops, markets and food vending in the Sunyani township from 6am-6pm on Friday 28 July 2023. Workers in the formal sector are also expected to wear red or black apparel to work, those who fail to comply with the directive would be dealt with.
The late paramount chief of Sunyani Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri was enstooled as the chief of Sunyani Traditional Area at the age of 34 and served for 43 years before his demise at the Bono Regional Hospital, after a short illness, according to the acting president of the Sunyani Traditional Council, Nana Kwaku Sabin.
The late Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri succeeded Nana Kwaku Yeboah. His death was officially announced at the palace of the Sunyani Traditional Council by the Apomaau Priest of Atronie, Nana Kwasi Apraku.
Sabin, who is also the Akwamuhene said, all customary rites have been performed to mourn the late chief.
The late Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri played a crucial role in preserving traditions and guiding the Sunyani Municipality, and his loss will undoubtedly be deeply felt by residents of Sunyani and those who knew him and by the people he served.
