The Gas Challenge: Ho Technical University qualifies to semi-final stage

Ho Technical University graciously ousts UG and TTU from the Gas Challenge as it books a seat in the semi-final stage at the end of the second preliminary contest

The team representing Ho Technical University in the 2023 edition of the “Gas Challenge” has made history by graciously ousting the University of Ghana and Takoradi Technical University from the competition to book a seat at the semi-final stage.

The preliminary stage of the competition was held at the GNAT Hall in Accra on the 15 November 2023.

The theme for this year’s edition is “Embracing the Future Together: Building a Sustainable Gas Industry Through Education”.

The all-ladies team “Alkane,” represented Ho Technical University and won with 64 points, whereas team “LPG” from Takoradi Technical University and team “Propane” from the University of Ghana finished with 56 and 52 points, respectively, at the end of the second preliminary contest.

Speaking to Asaase News at the end of the competition, one of the winners from Ho Technical University, Ewoenam Dei-Zanga, said her team came in with a notion to win.

“We weren’t scared. We came here and we knew that with our preparation, we were fully prepared to accept any outcome because we knew what we had done. We’ve been preparing for this competition for close to a month now. It’s very exciting that we won. I don’t even have the words to describe how I feel right now,” Ewoenam stated.

Also gracing the occasion on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana was the quiz mistress of the National Science and Maths Quiz, who doubles as the Dean of the School of Engineering Sciences at the University of Ghana, Professor Elsie Effah Kaufmann.

Professor Kaufmann lauded the Ghana National Gas Company for birthing such an insightful programme that seeks to promote national development.

“I would like to acknowledge Ghana Gas for organising a program like this. What it does is expand what we do in our classrooms, teaching these young people to take acquisitions in the future to move our nation forward.”

“We have acknowledged over and over that it is not only what we do in our classrooms that help us to promote the knowledge and the skills that are necessary to move our nation forward. So this kind of partnership between educational institutions and a company like yours is very useful” Professor Kaufmann said.

The Gas Challenge is an annual inter-tertiary competition aimed at educating the public on the operations of the gas industry in Ghana.
