Theft of biometric verification devices won’t compromise 2024 election, says EC

Five officials of the Electoral Commission have been interdicted following the alleged theft of some Biometric Verification Devices (BVDs)

The Electoral Commission (EC) has said the integrity of the 2024 elections will not be compromised as a result of the theft of its Biometric Verification Devices (BVDs).

Five officials of the Electoral Commission have been interdicted following the alleged theft of several Biometric Verification Devices (BVDs).

According to the EC, the suspects have been handed over to the police for further investigation.

“This is not the first time that an item is missing from the Electoral Commission. People have been prosecuted and jailed but it didn’t compromise the integrity of our activities,” the director of electoral services at the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr Serebour Quaicoe said on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Tuesday (16 April).

“So no matter what happens, the integrity of our system remains intact. Nobody can use a stolen material to interfere in the electoral processes,” he told host Kwaku Nhyira-Addo.
