UK-based charity “Life Beacon International” donates to nursing, expectant mothers in Ablekuma South

Life Beacon International is committed to supporting efforts aimed at improving women healthcare and reducing maternal mortality in Ghana

Life Beacon International (LBI), a UK based charity organization, has presented baby care items to mothers and their babies at a Community-Based Health Planning and Services facility in Chorkor-Chemuena and the Mamprobi Polyclinic all in the Ablekuma South Constituency of the Greater Accra Region.

Receiving the items, the residents called on the government and duty bearers to construct a medical laboratory and a health insurance station in the area to enhance healthcare delivery, particularly for pregnant women.

Commendation

Speaking to Asaase News on the sidelines of the donation, the Deputy Directors of Nursing Services (DDNS) at the Facility, Patience Ennuson, said the lack of a laboratory discourages pregnant women in the area from walking to the facility to receive healthcare.

“This is a new place, and you can see from what came out that it lacks a laboratory as well as a health insurance station. Healthcare delivery for pregnant women involves a lot of lab tests. Hence, the lack of a laboratory is impeding service delivery” Patience Ennuson said.

Madam Ennuson commended the Founder and Chairperson of Life Beacon International (LBI), Dr Ruby Appiah-Campbell, as well as the Mom-and-Child Project Coordinator Dinah Naa Aberde Aryeh, for the gesture, stating that it will go a long way to help mothers and their babies at the medical facility.

Motivation

The Mom-and-Child Project Coordinator at Life Beacon Dinah Naa Aberde Aryeh, indicated that LBI is committed to supporting efforts aimed at improving women healthcare and reducing maternal mortality rates in Ghana

“As our name suggests, we are a beacon of life, and our goal is to empower young adults and groom them to become responsible adults. However, we believe this nurturing process begins from birth. That informed our decision to donate to the pregnant and nursing mothers.”, Miss Dinah Naa Aberde Aryeh said.

The items presented to all mothers present at the medical facilities include a baby blankets, buckets, postpartum maternal pads, breast pads, diapers, toiletries, and other basic necessities for child care.
