Volta Region: GNFS trains 25 senior officers

The officers made up of municipal, district, divisional commanders and heads in the service from various jurisdictions across the region are receiving training in areas of safety

At least 25 senior officers of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) in the Volta Region are undergoing a week-long capacity building training.

The officers made up of municipal, district, divisional commanders and heads in the service from various jurisdictions across the region are receiving training in areas of safety, accounting, leadership, manpower planning, discipline and auditing.

Speaking on behalf of the national command of the service, Deputy chief fire officer (DCFO) Tony Gomez said the training is relevant because “in all our dealings we have to make sure that we can deliver appropriately but before we do that, we have to make sure that we have the capabilities”.

He urged the officers to put all that they will learn into action in order to improve service delivery in their mandated areas.

Gomez also showered praises on the GNFS in the Volta Region for meeting expectations of the national command and charged the officers to continue to execute their task professionally and satisfactorily.

The training is expected to end Friday 10 May 2022.

The Volta regional commander of the service, Joy Ameyibor Ayim on his part said the training is necessary for his men.

According to the deputy Volta regional fire commander, Prince Billy Anaglatey, in the first quarter of 2022 (January to March) Volta Region recorded 21 domestic fire outbreak, zero industrial, seven vehicular, zero institutional, 13 commercial, 48 bush fires and three others, representing 3.32% of the national fire outbreak report.
