Wa flogging: Assembly condemns act, hunts for perpetrators
Some residents in Wa in the Upper West Region have publicly flogged two lovers who were seen in a sex tape making rounds on social media
Abdul Fataou Daud, the assemblyman for the Tagyiri electoral area in the Upper West Region has condemned the flogging of two lovers over a leaked sex tape in the area.
The incident has since been condemned by a cross section of the public who described the action of the youth as a violation of the right of the victims.
“The youth have taken the law into their own hands,” Daud said on The Asaase Breakfast Show on Wednesday (1 June). “There is no law that is saying that if a video of that nature is on social media, they should call them and lash them as they did.”
“So, we condemn it, there is no such law in the municipality.”
“The only thing is that for sometime now, traditional rulers and other stakeholders in the municipality try as much as possible when they come across such videos to call the victims, counsel them and try as much as possible to mould them and integrate them into the society.
“With my unit committee members, we are trying as much as possible to apprehend the perpetrators and then we will bring them to book, as the regional police PRO earlier on stated on other sister radio,” Daud told Kwaku Nhyira-Addo.
Visit
The assembly member said he will later visit the victims for first hand knowledge of the issue.
“I will visit both of them this morning to actually see their current state, because people are telling me that when they flogged them, there were a lot of marks on their backs and buttocks. So, I will visit them to see their state of health,” he said.

On Tuesday (31 May), the lovers were paraded in front of the courtyard of the Wa Naa’s Palace and lashed by the irate youth who had dragged the two there to report them to the chief.

The chief was absent when the two were dragged to the palace to be punished, a teacher and a royal Naa Kadiri told Asaaseradio.com moments after the incident.
“They said these were people who were caught allegedly engaging in sex and leaked the sex tape to the public. Unfortunately, when they got to the palace the Wa Naa wasn’t around,” he said. “We’re yet to get the full details about the incident.”
The youth then decided to take matters into their own hands by tying the two lovers to a pole in front of the palace and flogged them. The male believed to be 20 years is a tricycle driver and the 18-year-old ticket seller work at the Wa Central Market.
In the said leaked video, the two were seen having sex.
