Let’s train and export nurses, says Registered Nurses Association

At least 3000 nurses have so far left the shores of Ghana in 2022 to seek greener pastures in Europe and America, according to the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA)

Perpetual Ofori Ampofo, the president of the Ghana Registered Nurses Association,(GRNA) has called for a holistic review of training nurses and midwifery in the country.

Ofori Ampofo believes this could help position Ghana to train and export nurses to rake in more revenue for the country.

At least 3000 nurses have so far left the shores of Ghana in 2022 to seek greener pastures in Europe and America, according to the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA).

Speaking with Benjamin Offei-Addo on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Friday (15 July) “As we speak there is a huge labour gap in these countries and they are recruiting everywhere in Africa, and I take pride in the fact that Ghanaian nurses excel everywhere they find themselves and they are a hot cake.”

” … if we can look at the exportation of nurses as an income generating venture, then we must look at the education of our nurses and midwives; overhaul it and have a degree as the entry point and focus more on specialisation where we can have emergency nurses and all those specialities which are on hot demand out there …” she added.
