Ameyaw Debrah inspired me to blog, says Kobby Kyei

Kobby Kyei said he looked up for his fellow blogger online and after establishing contact with Ameyaw Debrah he was given tips on how to become successful in the industry

Ghanaian blogger, Kobby Kyei, has revealed that fellow award-winning writer Ameyaw Debrah supported his blogging aspirations.

In an interview on Between Hours on Monday (20 June) he said: “I googled bloggers in Ghana and his name came up. I called Ameyaw and said ‘I want to visit you and have a one on one discussion’.”

“So, we met up and I told him I want to be a blogger. Big shoutout to him, he was so welcoming,” Kyei told Asaase 99.5 Accra’s Naa Ashorkor.

However, Kyei said his love for the Ghanaian rapper and musician Sarkodie was the main inspiration behind entering the blogging space.

“Prior to that I used to post a lot of content about Sark, but I didn’t even know what the whole blogging thing was about. So Ameyaw gave me a few words; just be different, stay true to yourself, consistency.”

Credibility

Kyei bemoaned the level of sensationalism in the blogging space.

“I decided to start the hard way and became successful the hard way so that along the line I will be noted for this particular thing. I didn’t like sensationalism and a lot of my colleagues were telling me I wouldn’t be verified.

“So, I sat down one day and said there are over 30 million Ghanaians, not everyone like sensationalism, especially the corporate people because there is also the market out there,” the blogger recalled.

He advised young bloggers to avoid sensationalism and aim for the big gigs.

“Now if you want to work with serious people like the corporate people, it is better to do the right thing because they pay big money.

“I always say when you are working always use your conscience because at the end of the day what legacy are you leaving behind?” Kyei said.
